Council moves on next stage in Ipswich Waterfront development

Published4th March 2021

Ipswich’s Waterfront development is moving on with a recommendation to the Council’s Executive meeting on 9 March to award a contract for works to clear debris and undertake other remedial work at the R & W Pauls Silo.

This follows on from similar works now completed at the Burtons Warehouse (soon to the be new home of Gecko Theatre Company) and the same is also due to start in spring at the Burtons Silo building.

The Pauls Silo works was awarded funding as part of the Government Town Deal that was announced in yesterday’s budget. This funding will contribute to the cost of these works.

If the recommendation is agreed then these works will start in summer. Once the silo has been cleared and made safe, a follow-on project plan will then be developed.

Says Cllr David Ellesmere, Leader of Ipswich Borough Council,

“This is another positive step in our plan to regenerate the Waterfront. We have been working hard to bring these buildings back into use. I’m pleased that this key site on St. Peter’s Dock is now on its way to  becoming an attractive entrance to the Waterfront from St Peter’s Street and the town centre.”
