The Council has prepared a draft development brief in the form of a supplementary planning document (SPD) to guide the future development of the Ipswich Garden Suburb (Ipswich Northern Fringe) over the coming years.
Purpose of the SPD
The SPD provides an overall masterplan framework for the future development of the area together with more detailed guidance on such topics as urban design, transport strategy and community facilities.
Additionally a Sustainability Appraisal and Strategic Environmental Assessment (SA/SEA) of the SPD has been undertaken for the Council by Hyder Consulting. This reports on an on-going process of review that has helped inform the choices made in the draft SPD in terms of sustainability.
Consultation period
Consultation on the SPD and the associated SA/SEA is taking place between Monday 13th January and Monday 10th March 2014.

A draft preliminary sustainable drainage system (SuDS) strategy for the Ipswich Northern Fringe has been prepared by the Council, which has informed the draft SPD. The strategy should be regarded as a starting point for the design of any surface water drainage proposals for new development at the Northern Fringe. It may need to be refined to support future planning applications (and any associated SuDS Adoption Body applications) and further updates or revisions to the strategy may be required as the development progresses and national guidance and standards are rolled out. Paragraph 4.49 of the draft SPD refers. A copy of the draft strategy is available for download below:
