New play area opens at Newbury Road Recreation Ground

A new children’s play area at Newbury Road Recreation Ground has opened today (Monday 4 September).

The new play area which features equipment, including an accessible swing, a scramble and slide, a sky swing with pod seats as well as equipment suitable for use by older children.

A challenging climbing frame gives children the chance to scramble up a large traversing wall with climbing poles, a net, vertical drag rope, arched pole rail and post-mounted footholds.

Park users will also benefit from a new fitness area.

Part of Ipswich Borough Council’s Play Area Strategy 2022-27, the play area is the fourth play area to be renewed.

Councillor Phil Smart, Ipswich Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Environment and Climate Change, says: “It’s fantastic to see another one of our parks upgraded through our Play Area Strategy.

The new play area provides a safe and enjoyable space for children of all ages and abilities to play and have fun.

We’re also pleased that the new play area includes a fitness space, giving the community the opportunity to keep fit at no cost.”
