Ipswich Borough Council proud supporters of National Apprenticeship Week

Published30th January 2023

This year Ipswich Borough Council will be celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2023 (6 to 12 February) with an event to promote the benefits of an Apprenticeship in local government at Ipswich Town Hall.

On average Ipswich Borough Council employs around twenty apprentices each year and has been supporting apprenticeships for forty years.

Louis is in the third year of a Carpentry Apprenticeship with Ipswich Borough Council. “I’m now a qualified carpenter with a lifelong career ahead of me, I‘ve learnt so much and received so much support from my tutor, mentor and colleagues,” he says.

Sophie, an HR Apprentice, says: “I wanted to do an apprenticeship rather than go to university. I combine college work with my role, which really helps bring the theory I am learning to life.  An apprenticeship with Ipswich Borough Council is a really good way to gain experience in a large organisation, whilst working towards a qualification.”

If you or someone you know might be interested in an Apprenticeship with Ipswich Borough Council, then come along to our Open event on Tuesday 7 February 2023, or book a place on one of two online events.

It is anticipated that six apprenticeships will be immediately available to apply for, with at least five further positions to be advertised later this year.

Councillor Martin Cook, Ipswich Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Resources, says: “Apprenticeships with Ipswich Borough Council are a great way to earn while you learn. These events during National Apprenticeship Week 2023 are a chance to meet some of our current or past Apprentices face-to-face to discover how our apprenticeships may work for you.”

“High school, sixth form or college leavers, parents, guardians, support workers, teachers or careers advisors are all welcome to attend Ipswich Town Hall to find out more about apprenticeships.”

Apprentices will be on hand at the Town Hall to show you examples of their work, explain how their apprenticeship is working for them, demonstrate how they are developing ‘Skills for Life’ alongside learning and earning, and how to apply for one of our exciting apprenticeship opportunities.

The following events will take place:

  • Tuesday 7 February 2023 (12 - 3pm): Apprenticeship Open Event at Ipswich Town Hall
  • Thursday 9 February 2023 (5.30pm - 6.30pm): Introduction to apprenticeships at IBC virtual session
