Ipswich Borough Council has launched a new round of grants to boost small businesses, with a particular focus on the town centre.
Grants of up to £2,000 are available for smaller local businesses or landlords in Ipswich Town Centre or other areas of the town wishing to improve the appearance of their shop frontage.
Priority will be given to projects that bring empty units back into use to offer new employment opportunities; encourage new business opportunities in the town centre and outlying areas; promote a vibrant retail offer and enhance the appearance of Ipswich town centre.
The type of shop front applications welcomed include external painting or brick repairs, signage improvements, a new door or window, disabled access improvements. Or, perhaps an awning, deep clean, new outdoor plants, or seating.
Grant applications are welcome from any freehold business owners or leaseholders with at least five years left on their lease that operate a small business in Ipswich. Applications received will be assessed by a grant panel on a first come first considered basis, with decisions advised in writing, with priority given to businesses within the Ipswich Central Business Improvement District area.
Councillor David Ellesmere, Ipswich Borough Council’s Leader, says:
“This is a great opportunity for businesses and landlords to spruce up their premises and improve the customer experience. We would particularly welcome any applications that help bring vacant town centre units back into use.”
Local businesses interested in finding out more should email a request to opportunities@ipswich.gov.uk so that an application pack and guidance can be sent through for completion and return by 31 March 2023.
National retailers, chains with more than three locations, charities, betting shops and pawnbrokers are not eligible for this grant.
