Theatre calls for community to nominate their local heroes

Published17th June 2024

Ipswich Regent Theatre is asking the public to nominate their local heroes in Ipswich and Suffolk for their chance to receive a free night out at the theatre.

The nomination appeal has been launched in celebration of award-winning West End show, Come From Away, which is on stage at Ipswich Regent Theatre from 2 to 6 July.

Come From Away tells the incredible true story of how a small town in Newfoundland, Canada opened their hearts and homes to passengers stranded in the aftermath of 9/11. Just like the folks in Gander, we have our own community heroes right here in Ipswich and Suffolk, and it’s time to shine the spotlight on them.

From now until Sunday 23 June, nominations are open for anyone who has demonstrated remarkable acts of kindness, public service, or community spirit. We want to hear about those who have made Ipswich and Suffolk a better place to live. Whether it’s a neighbour who’s always there to lend a hand, a volunteer who dedicates countless hours to a local cause, or someone who has made a significant difference in the lives of others, we want to celebrate them!

Two lucky heroes, along with a guest of their choice, will be treated to tickets to the opening night performance of Come From Away at the Regent Theatre on Tuesday 2 July.

Mark Whiting, Head of Vibrant Town Services at Ipswich Borough Council, says:

“We’re incredibly excited to be bringing Come From Away to our audiences as part of the show’s first tour since it took the stage by storm in the West End.

The show is a fantastic celebration of local heroes who helped the 7,000 air passengers grounded in Newfoundland and welcomed them into their lives.

To celebrate the show’s arrival at the Ipswich Regent Theatre, we want to shine a light on our own local heroes and give something back to those who give so much to others, offering them a night of entertainment, joy, and well-deserved recognition.”

Nominations can be made online.
