New homes for Christmas

Five families will be celebrating Christmas in Ipswich’s newest houses – the first of many to be moving into the largest council house development to be built in the town for 50 years.

The Borough Council and its construction partner, leading national housing and regeneration specialist, Keepmoat, are building 108 homes in Bader Close in south-east Ipswich. The first five are now complete, while the others will be completed in stages during the next year.

Today, the Mayor of Ipswich, Councillor Bill Quinton, and the Leader of the Council, David Ellesmere, joined Keepmoat representatives at Bader Close to meet some of the tenants.

The Bader Close development follows two small-site council house developments in the south-west and north-west of Ipswich which were completed nearly a year ago. But the latest project signals the first large-scale building for more than a generation.

Council Leader David Ellesmere said: “It’s great to see families moving in to the first homes on this significant new development. It shows our commitment to building quality yet affordable homes for local people in housing need. Building hundreds of homes over the next few years is one of our top priorities.”

Jason Seymour, Keepmoat’s New Build Director (Southern), said: “We are delighted that the first tenants will be moving into the new homes in Bader Close just in time for Christmas. At Keepmoat our work is about transforming communities and helping create better places to live and we are proud to be a part of this great project.”
