Published10th October 2024

Members of the public are invited to attend the annual Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph in Christchurch Park on Sunday 10 November.

Organised by the Royal British Legion and Ipswich Borough Council, the service provides an opportunity for the community to come together and pay their respects. Starting at 10.50am, the service will be attended by veterans, civic leaders, members of the armed forces, cadets, and other organisations.

Military representatives and youth organisations will march through the centre of Ipswich to the service, starting from Elm Street at approximately 10.15am. The route is: Elm Street, Museum Street, Westgate Street, Tavern Street, Northgate Street, crossing A1156 Crown Street into Soane Street. Members of the public are welcome to watch the parade but are asked to ensure they leave sufficient space for the parade and to follow directions from police and security staff.

Following the service, Councillor Elango Elavalakan, Mayor of Ipswich, Lady Clare Euston, Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk, and Martyn Levett, Honorary Recorder for Ipswich, will take the salute at the March Past. Military units present are expected to include 4 Regiment Army Air Corps and 202 Squadron of 158 Regiment, Royal Logistic Corps, both of which have the Freedom of the Borough of Ipswich.

On Armistice Day, Monday 11 November at 10.50am, veterans and children from local schools will come together at the Fields of Honour in the Old Cemetery and at the Cenotaph in Christchurch Park for services of remembrance for those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. The sounding of maroons will mark the start and end of a two-minute silence at 11am.

The annual Poppy Appeal will be launched in Ipswich on Saturday 26 October by the Mayor outside Ipswich Town Hall. Find out more about the Appeal and donate online at: www.britishlegion.org.uk/get-involved/poppy-appeal

The Mayor of Ipswich, Councillor Elango Elavalakan says:
