Bramford Road closed

The top of Bramford Road (at its junction with Norwich Road) in Ipswich is still closed in both directions for both motorists and pedestrians.

Access to Benezet Street from Norwich Road will be maintained. Diversion routes will be in place.

The closure is because of concerns about the safety of one of the adjacent buildings.

The building, the former Rose & Crown public house, has been undergoing restoration work but the Council, after taking advice from the Health & Safety Executive and independent structural engineers and scaffolding consultants, has concluded that it is now structurally unsound and that for public safety reasons the adjacent road needed to close.

Chief Executive Russell Williams said: “We have closed the road because public safety is our foremost concern. Diversions will be in place and we will be working with our advisers and contractors to reopen the road as soon as possible. However, we will not take any risks. In the meantime, we continue to discuss remedial actions with the site owners. We apologise for the inconvenience caused by the closure.”
