Enjoy Sammy the Reindeer’s Christmas Adventure in Ipswich!

Published5th December 2023

A family-friendly festive trail around Ipswich Town Centre featuring Sammy the Reindeer launched as part of the Ipswich Weekender, thanks to Towns Deal funding.

The trail involves downloading a map from the Ipswich Borough Council website and using it to visit shops around the town to obtain a letter in each to spell out a phrase.

Thanks to smartphones there is also an extra virtual bonus to be enjoyed at the end of the trail as a QR code at the Town Hall reveals an app showing Sammy the Reindeer on the steps of the Cornhill for a photograph before clever Augmented Reality (AR) sees Sammy flying above the Cornhill, and, if followed there is another Sammy projection to be seen from Lloyds Avenue.

Councillor Neil MacDonald, Ipswich Borough Council Leader, says:

“Thanks to Towns Deal and Ipswich Weekender funding it has been possible to launch a Christmas Adventure trail to be enjoyed by families this month, featuring Sammy the Reindeer.

“Local businesses have really got behind the trail, and it shows what amazing things can happen in our town as we look to progress our Digital Ipswich project and new Augmented Reality Trails around our town in 2024.”

Sammy the Reindeer Christmas Adventure will run from 7 until 31 December for families to enjoy over Christmas. To download the trail map visit: Sammy the Reindeer Trail | Ipswich Borough Council

The Ipswich Christmas Weekender sees many free activities on offer around town between Thursday 7 December and Sunday 10 December with music, crafts and entertainment on the Cornhill.
