Ipswich street cleansing team short-listed for ‘Best Service’ award

Ipswich Borough Council’s street cleansing team are in the running for a national award, having been short-listed for Best Service Team of the year.

Ipswich is up against six other councils in the UK – including Colchester City Council – for the Association of Public Service Excellence (APSE) award this year, with the winner to be announced in September.

Councillor Phil Smart, Ipswich Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Environment and Climate Change, says:

“Our street cleansing team do a fantastic job of looking after the town centre, Ipswich waterfront, our residential streets across the Borough and shopping parades.

It’s brilliant to see that their hard work and dedication has been recognised as public service excellence. We all hope that Ipswich can be crowned the best team at these awards, but whatever the outcome I am so proud of the work they do to keep Ipswich streets clean and tidy thank you.”

The APSE Awards are specifically for frontline services provided by UK local authorities. The awards are agreed by a panel of expert judges. This year, there are 21 categories, covering most local services.

Speaking about the Awards, Mo Baines, APSE Chief Executive, adds:

"Across local government we have an army of unsung heroes going above and beyond to deliver for their local communities. The APSE Service Awards uniquely recognise the profound contribution of local council frontline services to local communities and local people. These awards celebrate those contributions to the delivery of excellence on the frontline and striving to achieve continuous improvement in public service delivery.”

All 21 winners will be announced at the APSE Annual Charity Awards Dinner, in aid of Parkinson’s UK, on Thursday 14 September 2023 at Titanic Belfast. The ceremony will take place at the rise of the APSE Annual Seminar.
