Remembering Councillor Sophie Connelly: Our Tribute

Published3rd January 2024

Ipswich Borough Council today pays tribute to Councillor Sophie Connelly, who died on Tuesday 2 January.

Councillor Lynne Mortimer, Mayor of Ipswich says:

“It is with great sadness that we learn today of the loss of Councillor Sophie Connelly.

Sophie was a well-liked and respected member of our Executive and a passionate councillor who worked very hard for her community.

As we mourn her loss, we also recognise the impact that she had on so many, not only as a councillor but also in her role at Ipswich School and in her community and voluntary work.

Sophie served as ward councillor for Whitton ward between 2012 and 2021 and had represented the St Johns ward since 2022. During her tenure she held portfolio holder responsibilities for Communities and more recently for Culture and Customers, as well as serving on a number of other committees and outside bodies.

Our thoughts are with Sophie’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
