Ipswich Borough Council has received extra funding to support rough sleepers in the town.
£89,104 has been provided by the Government to provide up to eight emergency beds for rough sleepers. The funding will also be used to help the Council and its partners to support rough sleepers by providing them with the essentials needed to help them secure long-term accommodation.
The funding which comes from the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) includes an uplift to the Rough Sleeping Initiative 2022-25 in response to the pressures local areas are experiencing.
The grant runs until the end of March 2024.
Councillor Alasdair Ross, Ipswich Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Housing, says:
“This extra funding is vital in helping the Council and its project partners to work with anyone found rough sleeping in Ipswich – particularly during this period of freezing temperatures.
By being able to offer more emergency accommodation, we hope we can all give the much-needed support to the most vulnerable and build relationships with them so that they can find a permanent place to call home.”
