New secret garden themed play area opens in Whitehouse Park

Published18th July 2024

A new secret garden themed children’s play area has opened today (Thursday 18 July) in Whitehouse Park in Ipswich.

Themed on nature, the play area includes 75 play features and is the fifth play area to be improved as part of Ipswich Borough Council’s Play Area Strategy 2022-27.

Incorporating equipment for children of all ages, from babies and toddlers up to 14 year-olds, there will be something for everyone to enjoy. The secret garden has a twisting ivy trail to follow and then find the giant treetops glider at a height of 4.4 metres, a quiet play and reflection area, a 25m zipwire and an outdoor fitness zone. The play area also features inclusive equipment including a braille panel, a sensory totem, and a sign language play panel.

Councillor Lucy Trenchard, Ipswich Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Parks and Climate Change, says:

“We’re delighted to be opening this new play area in readiness for the school holidays, giving children of all ages a fun, safe and challenging space to enjoy.

Designed to encourage children to let their minds wander, the new play area pushes children to learn, use their imagination and explore together regardless of ability.

The local community have been very positive about the new play space, so we’re looking forward to making a start on the next one as we continue to invest and deliver our Play Area Strategy over the next three years.”
