Street cleansing team hoping to clean up at national service awards

Ipswich Borough Council’s street cleansing team have been named as finalists in the APSE Service Awards 2024 for the second year in a row.

Nominated for the Best Service Team: Waste, Recycling and Streetscene of the year award, the national awards include 17 categories and give recognition to frontline services provided by UK local authorities.

The good news follows the Council’s waste team winning the Best Practice in Garden Waste award at the Better Waste Services Live: Garden Waste 2024 event held earlier this month.

Councillor Phil Smart, Ipswich Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Environment and Transport, says:

“We are very proud to see our street cleansing team have been nominated for the second year for this national award.

“Our dedicated frontline staff take a lot of pride in the work they do, working in all weathers to keep our streets looking their best, so it’s great to see their hard work recognised once again.”

Speaking about the Awards, Mo Baines, APSE Chief Executive, said: "Across local government, there is a multitude of people working to deliver the very best for their local communities. At a time when national politics is dominating the headlines, it is more vital than ever that we acknowledge the dedication of our frontline service teams and the positive impact they have on their communities.

“Frontline services have a profound impact on people’s day-to-day lives, and APSE is proud to give local authorities the recognition they deserve through the Annual Service Awards. This year’s finalists are a testament to the innovation, dedication and perseverance shown by the unsung heroes of local government across the UK. We can’t wait to celebrate with you.”

Winners are set to be announced at the APSE Annual Charity Awards Dinner, in aid of Parkinson’s UK, on Thursday 12 September at the Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel.
